A New and Expanded Gut Healing Retreat for 2027
Are you ready to understand your gut in a whole new way?
Your gut influences far more than digestion.
It plays an extraordinary role in immunity, inflammation, nutrient absorption, energy, mood, brain health and overall wellbeing. When the gut is struggling, the effects can be felt throughout the entire body.
In 2027, Heal Your Gut returns to Heartland Meadows as a newly developed and significantly expanded retreat.
Following a year of extensive study, exploration of new and emerging research, and work with a leading gastroenterologist from the United States, Jenny has completely revisited and deepened the Heal Your Gut program.
What we now understand about the gut microbiome, the gut barrier, inflammation, digestion, immune function and the relationship between the gut and the rest of the body continues to evolve.
And so has this retreat.
If you have joined us for Heal Your Gut before, we would genuinely love you to come again. This will not simply be a repeat of what you have already experienced. There will be new information, new research, a more comprehensive gut healing protocol and even more practical tools to help you take what you learn at Heartland Meadows into your everyday life.
If this is your first Heal Your Gut retreat, prepare for a fascinating three-night journey into one of the most important foundations of your health.
Why does healing the gut matter so much?
A healthy gastrointestinal system does much more than process food.
Your gut contains an enormous community of microorganisms that interact with your immune system, nervous system, hormones and metabolism. It is also intimately connected with your brain through the gut-brain axis.
When this delicate ecosystem becomes disrupted, the consequences can extend well beyond bloating or digestive discomfort.
Throughout the retreat, we will explore the connection between gut health and areas such as inflammation, immune function, autoimmune conditions, fatigue, mood, food sensitivities, nutrient absorption and general wellbeing.
Most importantly, we want you to leave understanding why your gut matters and what you can realistically do to support it.
More than a weekend of learning
This retreat has been intentionally extended from Friday afternoon through to Monday morning, giving us three nights together and allowing time to move beyond simply talking about gut health.
Throughout your stay, you will follow a carefully considered gut-supportive food and lifestyle protocol, giving you the opportunity to experience many of the principles we discuss.
You will enjoy nourishing meals created with gut health in mind while learning why particular foods and ingredients have been chosen.
And we don’t want that learning to disappear the moment you drive through the gates.
You will also be supplied with recipes, menu ideas and practical information to take home, helping you translate what you have learned into real life without feeling that you need to completely overhaul everything overnight.
The aim is not perfection.
It is understanding.
It is learning how to make informed choices.
And it is giving your body the conditions it needs to function as well as possible.
What you’ll explore
🧬 The Gut Microbiome
Discover the remarkable ecosystem living within your digestive tract and why diversity within the microbiome matters. We will explore what supports beneficial bacteria, what can disrupt the microbiome and how our understanding of gut bacteria continues to change.
🌿 The Gut Barrier and “Leaky Gut”
Understand the intestinal barrier, what can compromise its integrity and why gut permeability has become such an important area of research.
🔥 Gut Health and Inflammation
Explore the relationship between the digestive system, immune system and inflammation, and why addressing the gut may be an important piece of the wellbeing puzzle.
🧠 The Gut-Brain Connection
Your digestive system and brain are in constant communication. We will explore the gut-brain axis and look at the fascinating relationship between digestion, stress, emotions, mood and the nervous system.
🥣 Food as Information
Learn how different foods interact with the digestive system and microbiome, why gut healing is about much more than simply removing certain foods, and how we can nourish the body while still enjoying food.
🌱 Supporting a Healthy Microbiome
Discover practical ways to nourish microbial diversity and support the environment in which beneficial bacteria can thrive.
🥬 Fermented Foods
Learn about traditional fermented foods and how they may fit into a gut-supportive lifestyle. Our hands-on fermentation workshop will give you practical skills you can continue using at home.
💗 Stress, Emotions and the Nervous System
Digestion does not happen in isolation. We will explore how chronic stress and nervous system dysregulation can influence digestive function, while introducing simple practices to help the body move into a calmer state.
🍲 Your Take-Home Gut Healing Toolkit
You will leave with recipes, meal inspiration and practical ideas to help you continue supporting your gut once you return home.
You will experience it, not just learn about it
Throughout the retreat, our meals and daily rhythm will complement the principles being taught.
Rather than sitting through endless lectures about what you “should” be doing, you will have an opportunity to live many of these practices for several days.
There will also be time to rest.
Time to swim.
Time to enjoy the infrared sauna.
Time to walk through the property.
Time for gentle movement and breathwork.
Time to experience sound healing.
And time simply to allow your nervous system to slow down.
Because gut healing is not only about food.
This retreat may be for you if…
You experience digestive discomfort, bloating or changes in bowel function.
You live with food sensitivities or feel confused about what you should and shouldn’t be eating.
You are interested in the relationship between the gut, inflammation and immune health.
You experience fatigue, brain fog or a general feeling that something isn’t quite right.
You have been diagnosed with an autoimmune condition and want to better understand the role gut health plays in whole-body wellbeing.
You have tried countless gut health ideas but feel overwhelmed by conflicting information.
Or perhaps you feel well and simply want to understand your body better and learn how to protect your long-term health.
Knowledge grounded in research and lived experience
This retreat is deeply personal to Heartland Meadows.
Jenny and Dave have both travelled their own significant health journeys, experiences that ultimately helped shape the philosophy behind Heartland Meadows.
For Jenny, her earlier experiences with ulcerative colitis and rheumatoid arthritis sparked a lifelong fascination with the connection between nutrition, the gut, inflammation, emotions and whole-body health.
Today, as a qualified Functional Nutrition Coach with a PhD in Emotions, Jenny combines that lived experience with ongoing study and an ever-evolving understanding of the research.
The 2027 Heal Your Gut retreat represents the next stage of that learning.
It brings together what we have learned from previous retreats with a further year of study, emerging research and professional collaboration to create our most comprehensive gut health retreat yet.
